SCHOOL COUNSELOR OVERVIEW

Hello Oakwood Husky Families,

My name is Wathana Sam, and I am the School Counselor for Oakwood Elementary.  It's an honor to be here and serving our students and community.

I have been with Lodi Unified School District for 21 years, working as an elementary school teacher for 16 years and serving as a school counselor for the past 6 years.  I have been at Oakwood for 5 years now.   My role as a school counselor is to inspire and empower the lives of young people at Oakwood Elementary School.  I am extremely open to collaborate with all of you in developing a nurturing and enriching school community for our students.

As a school counselor, I play a vital role of the educational leadership team.  I help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become productive citizens of the future.  To ensure a bright future for all students, I provide a comprehensive counseling program that deliver direct services, crisis response, intervention, and prevention curriculum, and indirect services.

My role is to assist to eliminate/reduce barriers that impede on academic learning, specifically through small social skills groups; one on one Individual/crisis support; classroom workshops; parent workshops; parent support by providing strategies and necessary resources to assist the family supporting their child.
